What is being done — What you can do
All over Western Europe, in addition to their large touring concerts, some musicians, stage techs, graphic artists, touring production teams, and other people associated with Go Tan Project (listed on this site) have begun to volunteer their time and expertise throughout the schools, and with smaller community concerts , to inform ages 12 through 15 about Argentine Tango.
Communities throughout the United States are beginning to grasp the fact that fundamental modalities of Argentine Tango can be of huge benefit to a wide range of human needs; and deeply so for Special Needs and Disabilities.
The Pittsburgh Steelers support their own Endowment Fund for Autistic Spectrum Disorders. A friend of mine associated with this Endowment Fund has begun taking Beginning Argentine Tango I classes, and is learning the fundamental modalities that help families with Autistic loved ones.
Argentine Psychiatrist Dr. Federico Trossero, author of the book Tango Terapia uses the dance as part of a treatment program for patients suffering from illnesses that range from Depression to Social Phobias, and even Schizophrenia.
Try not to Let your Community and your Young People be Short-Changed and Left on the Side-Lines in Ignorance. The Argentine Tango can offer Sustainable Paying Careers.
Cities - Towns - City Councils - Parks and Recreation Departments
- Find a way to pay your Argentine Tango Instructor and fund and sponsor regular once a week after-school Argentine Tango classes in the Middle Schools grades 6th, 7th, and 8th.
- Try to Sponsor these classes once a week for at least one full semester of the school year.
Home School Associations
- Devise Dance Packages with your local Argentine Tango Instructors to enable your students to receive regular once a week classes for at least one full semester of the school year.
Non-profit Public Dance Clubs - Boys and Girls Clubs
- Help your City Council sponsor the regular Argentine Tango Dance Classes once a week for at least one full semester of the school term.
- Help make sure the young people of your Community have a dance floor they can use each week to dance what they are learning; and a dance floor they can use to network with other Middle Schools and host dance parties and Visiting Teacher parties from other schools.
- Host All—Ages Community Dance Parties for the Benefit of Needs Specific to your Community.
Music Directors in the Public Schools
- Help your students get an Argentine Tango/Ballroom Dance Club into their school.
- As Aretha would say: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Help get it into your school!
School Student Councils - Class Presidents - Class Officers
- Make an appointment with your school Music Director and lay out a 5 step plan to get an Argentine Tango/Ballroom Dance Club into your school.
- Make the decision to "make it happen for yourselves". Take your plan from meeting with your Music Director to an Appointment with your Principal of your school.
- Figure it out for yourselves and make it happen for yourselves. Make it work. Don't quit just because some obstacle comes your way.
Tango in Oregon
Portland already hosts the most fantastic festivals in the United States — the Portland TangoFest, each October, and ValenTango, held every February: check out clay'sdancestudio.com for specific information on these full-scope annual festivals.
From communities like Grants Pass where Tango knowledge is just beginning to Newport and Bend, Eugene and Ashland — Oregon is emerging as a leader in Argentine Tango.
Let’s deepen our lead — from research at the University of Oregon to our middle schools. And let's Collaborate and Encourage our entire United States to learn what the Argentine Tango can "bring to the table" for Communities/People as a Whole. Let’s go for it!!
